I heard that the Ficht motors were trouble. Was that for all of them or certain years? I'm considering a 1999 225 HP Evinrude Ficht. Is this a good motor?

Ted - Go to the red search function at the top of the page & enter FICHT as a search arguement & read away. Do the same in the troubles section.

Ted...Most of the problems were with the smaller block Fichts, the 150 and 175's. If this motor your looking at is still running well then it's probably past the point where it's gonna have any problems or it has had some of the problems that the Fichts had and has been fixed, most of them were fixed under warranty by OMC in the early years. I would ask the guy who is selling it if he ever had any problems and if they were fixed by OMC or a dealer. I've had a 2000 150hp Ficht, since it was new and it has about 600 hours on it now and I have never had a single problem with it, the only thing I've done is water pumps and plugs, run the correct oil for Direct Injection and good gas and you'll be fine. I would reccomend doing the normal things you would do to any motor before buying, ie. compression test, test drive, ask about what type of maintenance the guy has done and what type of oil he has been running. Any used motor is a crap shoot, but Fichts get a bad rap sometimes because of the earlier models and problems. Good luck.
