Hello All,
I need help, my optimax isn't starting. I buddy of mine sprayed something in it and it started but wouldn't stay running.
The only way it starts up is if he sprays this spray into the motor.
Where should I start looking?
Sorry if I am not explaining correctly but I am new to this.

Sorry, I can't help you other than to say DON'T let your buddy spray starting fluid in your engine.

Although you now know it's getting spark.

Start with the basic's, compression, spark, fuel, timing. Judgeing from the post it has spark, and compression, not sure about timing, and it doesn't have fuel. However, never assume anything, prove it, then move on.

As you stated it has spark, compression not sure but I don't think that would prevent it from starting. Also I don't believe you could measure compression unless it is started rught? Fuel is passing becuase I took off the fuel line near the fuel pump to see if it is flowing.
I have the service mannual but I didn't see a trouble shooting guide.

Don't mess with the engine at all!!!
There are many exacting procedures on Optimax engines. If you are not familiar with the engine and all the controls, sensors and their function you can screw things up in a hurry.
You will need a DDT, Digital Diagnostic Tester, scan tool, to diagnose the engine.
It is a direct injected engine that is entirely controlled by the ECM, with input from many sensors.
IT IS NOT A USER FRIENDLY ENGINE. You need the DDT and knowledge to work on it.

Sorry to be blunt,

Take the boat to a good repair shop that has the proper training and tools. It doesn't have to be a dealer, an independent shop is fine as long as they have the proper training and tools. Ask for estimates and minimum charges, many shops have a minimum charge to use the DDT, which also diagnoses problems.

The Optimax engines use three fuel pumps, a VST vapor separator tank, an air compressor and 6 direct injectors just in the fuel system!
