need some help, just bought this motor, instantly had gas pouring out of carb, cleaned carb and fixed problem. ran a couple of times ran great, now the problem is that when i run it at top speed the motor bogs down and then runs again. idles fine and runs great except for when i open it up. took hood off and see that when bogs down, gas shoots out of the top of carb. I cleaned it again and still doing it?????

'afternoon Kodiak,

i presume that you have a manual, and removed the carbs to clean them.
Did you replace the float when you serviced the carb?
might be stuck.
did you reuse that old gaskets? might be leaking past gasket.

hard to tell from here.

shoots out of the top?

can you add more detail on what exactly you did to clean and where out of the top it's leaking?

Re: 1999 25hp mercury

water is heavier the gas, try flaoting it in gas, in the carb bowel. it may be saturated if it was "put up" without being winterized.

the motor is kind of young to expect this kind of problem but lets determine if this is the source.

if the motor wasn't winterized, perhaps it would be a good idea to service the carb. tear it down, soak it in solvent, blow (compressed air) out the channels & orafices, replace gaskets, float & needle.

& if you dont have one, you ought to seriusly consider getting a service manual. it will help alot.

if this is the 2-cylinder with the head cast as part of the block, the basic design has been around, with very little change, for several years. it's a dependable design (else they would have quit making it).

not too much to that carb but it does sound like that is where your problem is.
