1999 350 mag mpi bluewater inboard seawater pump wear plate

Question is, my seawater pump wear plate is pitted a bit. Noticed while routine impeller change being made. Can I flop it over like a pancake? Can I use the other side which is virgin?

The circular wear is not that bad and I have a new double D seal where the wear plate sits. Is flipping a common practice or is there a reason to spend the 30 bucks for a new wear plate?

A wear plate will come in a water pump kit.Why take the chance of over heating the engine???

If you turn it over make darn sure you file off any rough surface if there are any holes stamped in it where the impeller spins or it will chew a new impeller up. Bevel the holes away from the impeller.
