1999 evinrude 115 ficht engine?

ok so I bought this engine on a 18 foot wellcraft. not having any real issues as of yet but have read bad things about the ficht line of engines. then I read that some people don't have any issues and love them. I called a local evinrude Johnson dealer and he told me that most of the early issues were worked out after 1998 and most of the issues were with 150hp and up engines. he said look up part numbers for my engine and the 1998 engine,and see that most parts were updated and changed. he did say he has replaced emm's over the years but again most were 150hp engines.he told me to watch carbon build up and the whole index and gap thing but to just do the yearly work like plugs, decarb, things like that. what do you guys think? anything I should have done or look for on this engine,thanks

See if you can contact Bombardier customer service or even a dealer . If you provide them with your serial number. See if they can determine if there are any outstanding field fixes that were never applied to that engine. That should tell you something.

well I emailed bombardier and they sent me the number of a dealer in south jersey to call about info. called him and all he could tell me was that it was never taking to a dealer for recalls or worked on under warranty .I'm going to take to him so he can take alook at it to see if the parts were updated but somehow never put into system. he asked for the injectors model number.he said the model number was the one updated from 1998 but it has since been updated again.. the crazy thing is he called me back about two hours later and said he did a repower for a guy last fall that had a 1999 115 ficht with a bad powerhead. he told me he did all the updates himself to the engine and has the paperwork. he gave me the guys number and said call him to see if he has it. well the guy does have it and told me give him $600 and I can have it. it is a complete engine tilt and trim too. new fuel pump to go with it ,all the injectors and emm and all. I think i'll pick it up. cant hurt to have all those extra parts in my garage..

you should have asked what went wrong with that 115????
maybe he is just baiting his hook

he said he had a new fuel pump put on. he let his son take it out and he never put oil in it and ran it all day. going back to the slip it started running "funny" then quit. tells me powerhead is done but just in parts I think its worth it. i'll go check it out and see if the part numbers on injectors and such are the up dated ones. even if not for $600 I may get a lot of parts off this engine..

I think it is a great idea to have an exact model parts motor sitting on the side....the LU has to be worth $300 alone....the TNT has to be worth $200...

thanks bob. I'm gonna buy it and hold on to it. i'll take my chance with the engine for now that by the way is running great(internet chatter has me worried) but if in the long run if the engine becomes to much to handle i'll repower and move on. thanks guys

Agree, the parts (lower unit, trim, injectors, ignition components) all have value.
