Back in September I bought a 2000 Sprint Bass Boat that has a 1999 225 FICHT. I am very aware of the history of the FICHT problems. Please don't tell me to dump in the ocean. I bought this boat priced with a BLOWN MOTOR. However, when I got it home i started right up with some new plugs. However, it is NOT running normal. I'm planning to fix the motor and make some improvements on the boat and resale it for a nice profit.

The motor will push the boat 58 mph. However, it is clearly not running right. Over the next couple months I'd like to dive in and get the motor back to running as healthy as possible.

I need to get a service manual and what ever diagnostic tools as required. I know I need some software and a wire harness and connectors so that I can connect to the ECU to my PC.

Can someone tell me what I need and where I can get it?

Compression test first before sending $$$$. Parts are getting harder to get and little resale value in my area..

there is another option with the 3.3L block....you can convert it to carb operated. Seek out Saltlifer on The hull truth and he'll explain everything you need to convert it over....you'll need some parts from a donor carbed motor. Like top bearing case, stator, flywheel, power packs, timer base, and carbs....

when don't you'll have a newer reliable motor with less costly replacement parts (won't need injectors, EMM, etc and you can sell those parts on ebay)

Yeah probably right on that too....but it would make a nice motor.....

Pro - eliminates the parts that could ruin a ficht motor
con - eliminates the fuel saving capabilities of a DFI.

for me it would be a great option as my 30+ year old motor is showing a lot of rust on various components, like steering arm, tilt tube....going to a newer 2001 + ficht that has a scored cylinder would get me to a newer system and easier access to the mid and lower unit parts.
