Hello All,

I have a 1999 Capri 1802 with a 120 Force outboard. I brought this boat last fall from the 2nd owner, overall pristine condition and the boat and motor have very few hours on them. Does not appear to be any modifications done to the boat and it looks like it came from factory/dealer setup. The stern of this boat is a very deep V, and there is very little freeboard off the transom, it sits very low in the water. Running the original Mercury Black Max prop that the boat was shipped with (13x19)

I am having a performance problem, water coming up over the engine bracket and into the engine well when getting up on plane. (at about 2500-3000 rpm) Like someone stuck a garden hose off the back of the engine. The well is very deep and the scuppers drain the water immediately. When I trim the boat out it stops but I still see a lot of excess splashing against the transom. Also The cavitation plate is under water when on plane, but I also cannot see the bottom of the keel.

The transom length is 20" and it sure looks like I have a 20" shaft length on the Force. The motor is mounted with the bracket flush to the top of the transom and the top bolt holes are being used on the bracket.

I think the cavitation plate lines up with the bottom of the keel but the boat is in a slip and I will have to haul it to get a good read on the height.

If I have to adjust the motor up on the transom is it ok to go up one or two holes in the bracket? There will then be a gap between the bracket and the top of the transom. . Are there any other 98/99/2000 1802 owers out there? How is your outboard setup?

Appreciate any info you guys can provide.

cavitation plate should be 1.5" above the bottom of the hull.

No problem using the other holes in the bracket.
