I just purchased a 99 bayliner with a Force 120 on her and these are the current issues i am having and wondering if any of you have some ideas.

1. First thing it does is when i throttle forward using the neutral switch, it works at first then about half throttle it jumps into gear. Bringing it back to the dealership to fix this, they will probably give me the run-around though.

2. Next the top carb, seems to leak fuel out when idleing, adjusted the fuel/air mixture screw but it doesn't seem to do anything, thinking maybe the float is bad allowing the fuel through.

3. When going WOT it will only reach about 4600 RPM, when i bring WOT with the engine off the carbs do not go completely flat. I have read some things about a lync and sync but cannot find info how how to actually do it, do you think this would help.

Also do they make a service manual for this motor, i have the clymer one already, but it just doesnt have alot of information in it.

Picture 181.jpgLeaking fuel when ideling, could be the floats off??
Or the reeds are broken in that carb.
The air screw, put it back where it was.
Can't remember?Start at 1 turn out and then adjust
It shouldn't have anything to do with gas comming out the front.
Manual? Look on e-bay or contact Mercury Marine.
They sell service manuals.A bit pricey though.

The shift problem.
Sounds like the linkage needs adjusting.

Low RPM's?
Do a compression/spark test.
What prop is on the boat?

The butterfly level:it doesn't necessaraily have to go flat.
The throttle lever should go all the way forward.See pic.
Check these things and get back.

I did check compression and timing, compression was 150 on all cylinders, the prop is the factory, i think its 13.25 x 17.

For your linc and sync, refer to the sticky at the top of the page. Frank A has it spelled out very nicely.

Dealer said they are changing the reed valves, and something in the controller, getting them to pay for it

That's what we like to hear. Let us know it fixes the issues when you get it back.
