Im not sure if its appropriate to ask this question on here but here goes.

Im in the process of buying a 1999 force 90hp with power tilt and trim the motor has low hours and looks great. Runs well too.

I have no idea what they should cost, some say force is cheaper. But does $1800 for this motor sound good? I know a similar motor in merc or evinrude is like 1-2k more.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Prices do vary depending upon condition and year. 1999 is the last year Force was manufactured. If it were my engine I would be trying to get 1800 bucks, with controls, and mounted on the buyers boat. In addition to here, look on ebay so see what similar Force engines are selling at then make a decision if it is worth it to you. Understand that after you use it for a year or two it will no longer be worth anything near the current asking price.

While the engine is basically a good one, people just don't want an orphan with an (undeserved) bad reputation.

Ive ran a 99 Force 90 HP the last two seasons. This was also a low hrs/Very clean O.B. I was reluctant on purchase due to Force reputation. So far, so good. Runs very well and strong (17.5 Alum Deep V / Walk-Thru). I trust it on the Great Lakes and St. Clair and St. Marys River (MI.) FOR WHAT ITS WORTH ! $1800.00 would be reasonable in my neck of the woods, Although in today's economy I would try to get it cheaper... Have a reliable mechanic give it a "Once Over"...May be the best $ you spend.....

Run a search on your local Craigslist and see what you come up with for comparative motors. You'll get a good feel pretty quickly, and if there aren't any, then that should tell you something as well. $1800 seems like a fair asking price, but, doesn't matter who makes it or what it is, I'd always offer lower because the worst a person can do is say "No". Usually, if you assure a seller that you're a serious buyer, ready to do business, and not wanting to offend him, he/she will work with you because "money talks". I ALWAYS have money in my pocket when I go to buy something, because the odds are the seller has already been inundated with tire kickers, low ballers, etc. by the time I get there.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
