I have a question about the mercury force engine. I have found a bayliner with 99 mercury force. I was told by the owner that by 1999 mercury had switched to using a regular mercury engine instead of the troubled force although they still put the force name on it. Is this true? 1999 Bayliner 180 w force for 6,500. Is this good deal?

No. The engine is still the old design, Most sub systems, like the ignition, tilt and trim, starter, electric /charging system, lower unit, etc, were from Mercury or Mariner models. But the powerhead is still a Force design. Some parts in the powerhead have been replaced with newer designs.

Ain't a bad price if everything is sound.

Really hard to tell what they did in '98/'99. It was the last of the production and they were using lots of left over parts from existing inventory. But the Merc to Force comparisons I have done were different powerheads.

i think you better compare because he just had to replace the head casket on hiss 115.the head gasket was the same as mine 120 force.the bore size was the same to.
