I just bought one, and I love it. It is fully loaded, 4.3L, and 4X4. Does anyone here have one and give me some additional info, and stuff to watch for?

In the manual it says that the towing weight is 5000lbs with the options that this one has, so surely it wont have any trouble pulling my 2000lb Starcraft.

Re: 1999 GMC Jimmy S-15

I had a '94 S-10 Blazer... same thing as your jimmy, different name.

Don't know if they fixed it by '99, but the 4.3 has a nasty reputation of the intake gasket leaking around 100k miles or so.

Catch it quick, and its no big deal. I noticed I was loosing a little coolant, it was seaping down the front of the intake and down the block, very slow leak. luckily it was the external side that leaked, and no coolant went into the engine.

$10 in parts, and 3 hours in the shed and it was fixed.

Other than that, They are pretty sollid running trucks. 4x4 went out on me, was just bad vacume hoses. (btw, vacume actuator for 4x4 is located under the battery tray)

don't pull 5,000 lbs... they don't like it, but they will do it! (It will do more, but don't ask)

Go out and have some fun in the mud!

Re: 1999 GMC Jimmy S-15

I have a 1999 Jimmy (suv)..And I also pull a 17ft Starcraft as a follow..I get about 19mph on the road when pulling with a full load..I am Afraid this is my last one..Have had to replace two heater cores due to type of anti freeze they Rec. After 60,000m wheel bearings are next and brake pads..

All that said, I really like the way she rides..Have been looking into the Dodge lineup for my next time around..

Anyone know anything about the Durangos?

gonfishn,

This what I have learned about Durangos by working on a few freinds trucks.

1) Ball Joints - They are horrible! Yugos have larger ball joints then Durangos do, and if you use 4X4 alot, you will break one at the least opertune time. There are aftermarket fixes!

2) Transmissions - Weak tranny for a 4X4. Don't expect more than 60,000 miles before a rebuild is needed.

3) Transfercase - Weak chains. Freind has already gone through 3 chains in his '01 Durango, and most off roading was done on a soft beach.

Other than that, they are nice on the interior, have a nice ride, but mpg's could be allot better.

Just my opinion.
