1999 johnson 115 v4

Hi, about a month ago I took my boat, a 1996 seaswirl 175 w a 115 Johnson vr4 out and it ran great to the first spot.

Then we I started it to relocate it would go very slow then shut off.. after a few times of trying, it started and ran like a champ again..but I just loaded it up and left. (this was the first time this has ever happened to it)

Over the weekend, I took my boat to clear lake and it ran great the whole day (tubing), when the wind picked up and the water got rough, it started doing it again. We had to go about 5 mph the whole way back.

Any suggestions of what to fix on it? I am thinking the impeller, as I have not done it since i purchased the boat about a year and a half ago. Will the impeller make my motor run slow?

So I took the boat to the shop, they said they ran it for an hour and nothing happened to them. compression was good. motor never got hot, water pump working, and all that. he said he can take my boat to the lake n run it like how i did but thats going to be about 500 bucks. are you serious?

any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks.
