1999 Johnson 200.
Very well maintained by the same mechanic all its life. The dude who owns it has some money. Solid compression. No issues. New starter. Selling with tilt/trim, throttle controls and hydraulic steering unit, lines and wheel. I drove it today on the 23 foot Hydrasports center console it's currently on. It's butter smooth and plenty powerful for the 1985 Hydrasports 21 foot center console (formerly 235 Johnson equipped) I would put it on. Things that concern me are rumors of magnet issues and the fact that it looks like it has six fricking carbueretors to maintain . Oil injection works, tho I'd prolly just use premix.
Guy wants $2000 for everything. He's putting on a 250 Yamaha cause he takes long trips with the boat. Nada on the engine is $1300 to $1500.
Would sincerely appreciate thoughts on this engine's reliability/gas mileage and whether this sounds like a good deal.

I think it's gonna be gone tomorrow afternoon for $2k to another buyer. He's got 'em lined up. Considering that the wiring harness/steering/trim/control gear is included in the deal, it's tough to see him not selling it for that. Question for me is, more whether I should be the person to buy it - since I'm first in that line.

No you shouldn't be. I'll have it shipped up here to CT and have it sold TOMORROW for $4800.

The carb versions are the good ones and ONLY ones to buy of that vintage.

If the motor has a good bill of health, buy it! It is as simple and bullet proof a motor as OMC has produced in the high HP ranges.

Thanks dazk. You're pretty much confirming my thinking. I'm a fair turner of wrenches(have turned plenty on the 1977 Rude 140 on the boat now) and it seems this thing is just too good to pass up. I might add too - after reading up on the oil injection, I think I'd be keeping it on it as it's a variable injection for that motor depending on temp/load etc. Cheers.

I'm a fan of the newer pumps.
1st- It's a messy PIA dealing with adding oil and measuring devices.
2nd- most fuel fillers are at a horrible angle, so you can't pour diddly in them without a flexible spout and there's always drips.
3rd- IMO. On average pre-mix causes more damage than the occasional pump failures that, btw have all sorts of warning systems on them...
How you ask...because few people actually pre-mix before it enters the tank. Most will add 50 gallons of gas and then dump in a gallon of oil, then drive off. Mixing will happen eventually, but lots of opportunity for raw fuel to get burned.
