Hi guys,

I currently have an evinrude 1972 40hp and am looking at upgrading to a 1999 johnson 25hp. Its a tiller handle and the price is $600, which I think is a great deal for such a new motor. Its in running shape and good to go. Heres my question: Can I use my controls from my current motor and adapt them to fit the new motor? Or would I have to buy a new set? And how much would I be looking at to get it converted? Steering wheel cable should pop on no probs.

Does anybody know about these 3cyl motors? ... Are they good motors?

Thanks for your help guys!!!

They are a good motor however there are couple of faults with them one is the Oil tank and mixing chamber it is prone to fail and needs to be removed and the engine ran using 50:1 pre-mix. The other is the power pack it is expensive to replace. Converting that engine to controls is not advisable. OMC only built the engine for 6 years so finding the parts to convert it wont be easy. Your controls ends will be different and the control ends are going to be under the cowl.
