1999 Merc 115 worth the upgrade vs 1985 merc 115 ?

I Have a chance of buying a very nice 1999 merc 115 (not used much) Thinking of it as an upgrade for my glastron cvx 16. Are these engines more fuel efficient vs my current tower of power 1985 merc 115 ? Any major problems with the 2 + 4 cyl operation at lower rpm's ? Is the 1999 very different from a 2007 merc 115 optimax that i might be able to buy but at an additonal $3000. Would the 2007 be a diiference vs the 1999 ? Any comments would be great. Thanks for your time..

Yes as they are a looper.......

Any major problems with the 2 + 4 cyl operation at lower rpm's ?

Only if your a skier and under propping will take care of that, if the system is clean and set-up correctly you will not notice the transition from 2 to 4 carb operation.

Thank you sir ! Im a little worried about the 2007 optimax seems like some issues out there and i really have no real mechanic to trust these days .
