I have a 1999 Merc O/B that runs out of fuel at below 3,000RPM and over 4,000RPM. I have replaced the filters(screw on & in line), the ball, & the anti-siphion at the tank. At idle after pumping up the ball the motor will run for about 5 minutes then the ball is empty with the factory ball, I purchased a TEMPO ball that callapses(it is a much softer rubber material). The tank pick up is clear no cracks or stress marks. I also disconnected the fuel line from the motor side of the ball and put it into a 1 gallon tank and the fuel was being pulled to the motor. My question is could this be a fuel pump problem & how can I be sure.

if the tank is in the boat then i would check the screen sock located in the dip tube in the tank .... take the hose off and just back the whole dip tube assembly out and then the tube unscrews revealing the screen ... most likely clogged let us know how ya did

reelfinaddict, I didn't get a call back from my buddy last night on your question, However I did look through some notes I had on my fuel pump test. Disconnect the fuel line on the out side of the pump between the pump and carb feed. When you turn over motor you should get fuel from pump. I should be a pulse, not nessesarily a high pressure blast but not a trickle. Good luck I'll let you know if I hear back from my contact.

bobrock<br />I have checked the pick up in the tank, everything is clear. I see no reason why there would be a restriction on the line. Thanks for the post. It has me baffled!!!
