Ok guys, spent 3 days browsing site, saw a few things that could be the reason here, but this one has some doozies.
1999 Mercruiser 350 MPI, boat stored indoors for last 22 years, except last 2, fresh water only. The boat itself is spotless, engine spotless, no obvious corrosion. Never had an issue with this boat engine wise, always perfect. Ran fine last year, then started doing weird stuff.
Took boat out drove around for 45 minutes, stopped in cove and idled for 20 minutes, went to go and then it started mis-firing, bogging down, won't go, almost like motor was being starved of fuel. Heres where it gets weird....after a few minutes of trying to go, neutral, gas, neutral gas, same story, sputtering almost dying, idles fine, I decided to hold down the trim on the throttle and somehow doing that allowed motor to take off and run as if nothing happened, once I release trim button on plane, boat tries to die again, depress trim button and issue gone, had to hold trim button all the way down to drive the 15 minutes back to dock, while doing this the engine ran like a ferrari, just absolutely perfectly like nothing ever happened.
Took it out a few weeks later, same issue, button down to get back.
Replaced batteries thinking the corrosion on old ones caused this, now the engine won't even start, turns over fine, but no light. Everything else looks great, all gauges work BUT no RPMs on Tach when I crank it over. Is this really all going to point back to the CPS?
The depressing the trim button to resolve issue really confuses me though. Has anyone ever heard of this?
