Hi All,
I have a kind of mystery. I was having some issues with dirty carbs on my 1999 mercury 75hp so I decided to pull them off and clean them. I pulled the carbs off, got them all cleaned up and put them back on a few days ago. Hooked the hose us, and went to crank the boat and nothing. It will not crank over. My warning beeper beeps like normal, and I can jump the solenoid and get the engine to spin with the starter. I just cannot get it to turn over with the key for the life of me.
I thought it was the kill switch maybe, but it tests fine with my voltmeter. So i went to the neutral safety switch. I cannot get the neutral safety switch to have continuity in nuetral or forward-reverse. So I thought I had it figured out there. I used a jumper wire to jump the switch where the neutral safety wire attaches, and still nothing. I even completely disconnected the neutral safety switch, still nothing.
I then went to the solenoid and tested the two small wires to see if they were getting any kind of voltage when the key was turned, nothing. Somewhere between the key and the solenoid I have a problem jsut not sure where.
I am at my wits end. Its amazing that this happened in the 2 days that I had the carbs pulled off the boat, and for no reason it seems. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
FYI, I have ordered a new key switch and solenoid switch from amazon. I figured I would change them out and if that doesnt fix it I can send them back since it is amazon prime.
Help get me back on the lake before the summer is over please
