I have a chance to get a 1999 Bassboat that caught fire while in tow. The battery somehow moved and shorted out causing the fire. Due to the battery starting the fire that pretty much gives it away that the fire was on the rear of the boat. I am for sure going to get the trailor. It is a tandem axle trailor and now needs 2 tires but I plan to replace all 4 as well as sandblast and repaint the trailor. The fire never really made it down to the trailor. Anyway back to the engine, I havent seen the engine up close yet and would assume that it would be no good as fire and alluminum dont mix. I believe the engine actually fell off the boat during the fire due to the heat on the mount. If the engine is in tact is there any chance it could be salvaged? Like I said, my main interest is the trailor and for free Im not complaining at all but dont want to throw away an engine if it can be salvaged.

Oh, the trolling motor on the front may be good, it will definately at least need the foot control to find out though..LOL. Doesnt matter, trailor is all I really want from it anyway but I have to take it as it sits to get the trailor.

Any thought? I hope to get a closer look in a few days, got to wait and see what the insurance company tells him first. He said if it comes down to it and they say they are takeing the boat he is going to ask about buy back and let me know how much.

Yes, my dad runs a fiberglass shop and a body shop and works on cars as well as boats. We have seen wuite a few come in to his shop with major damaged to boat and practicaly none to engine and they just take them and destroy them. I have to wait until the owner get in touch with the ins company riht now. He said he is going to try and get it for me. Normally he shouldnt have a problem with that because that will save the ins co a little money and after all thats what those companies want in the end is to save as much cash as possible. I will be sure to update this post when I find out for sure. I dont have very much ambition for the engine though. Im pretty sure it is ruined but if I find out diffenerent I will update this post.
