How do I remove the tilt/trim motor for replacement?

Welcome to iBoats.

Before anyone can answer your question we are going to need a bit more information about the engine. Can you tell us what the engine serial number is, and what style trim pump you have? There are a few different types, 3 ram with side filler, 3 ram with rear filler, or single ram. All have different ways to remove them.

The serial# is OG912634 It is a 3 ram The fill cap is on the left facing the back of the motor Thanks

Thanks for the info... The 3 ram systems are a bit tricky to remove. You have to remove the wiring from the solenoids, remove the anode under the clamp brackets, then you have to support the weight of the engine, remove the starboard clamp bracket, which means removing the steering cable and tilt tube nut, remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the clamp bracket (holding the trim system in), then remove the 3 screws on the other clamp bracket. Then the whole lot will fall of in your hands.... Then you can get at the screws holding the motor to the pump... Good luck.

What is going on with the motor to make you think it is bad? You just don't hear of many motors going bad.

:redface:The motor will not turn . tHE Solonoids work. When I power the motor directly it only turns one way

It's only a 2 wire motor, are you saying when you touch one wire to the + terminal on a battery, the other on the - terminal it will run, but when you reverse them it won't run????????

Actually, when I was first troubleshooting the solonoids I removed the two wires going to the tilt-trim motor and touched them to the pos post alternating the wires. Themotor would run only with one wire then it stopped running at all
