I am near a local dealer (NJ) selling one of these (used) for almost $19K but states "all reasonable offers considered". The high hours (on the Mercruiser 5L 220HP motor) usage is scaring me away yet I like (am tempted by) the Regal Destiny 200 deckboat layout...plus, I don't want to spend too much, and I am upgrading from a (small) 17' bowrider that I want to trade-in.

Saw one of these (a 1998 actually) from another NJ dealer in the last 3 months selling for the same $$$ but with less than half as many hours.

Should I stay away from a boat like this due to the excessive hours on the motor? I believe that every 100 hours on a boat motor is something of a milestone and this one is almost hitting its 5th!

What would you do? Thanks in advance for your advice.

fonzie04,

I can't speak for the price, but 480 hours does not scare me. It basically means that the previous owner obviously did something right to be able to get that many hours. Most marine engines fail from neglect, not wear out.

That engine/drive package should easily be capable of 2500 hours, with meticulous maintenance.

Thanks.

What about the pricing? I cannot seem to find too much information about the going rates for a 1999 Regal Desinty 200... or any reviews or opinions about reliability or experiences with this boat.

Appreciate any information that can be provided..

480 hours on a 5 year old boat is not obscene,if its been a salt water boat then make sure you find out the condition of the exhaust manifolds and risers. Should have been replaced by now or will need to be soon, If its only been fresh water use then manifolds should be fine, I have almost 1100 hours on my 13 year old Wellcraft with a merc 350, no problems, due to a tight maintenace schedule I keep.

I;ve owned a Regal Destiny 20' 2000 for the last 10 years, It is a terrific boat. Mine has 518 hours and runs like new and never fails...If they maintained the engine, the hous are minor..
