Hey guys. I have a 99 SeaRay 210 bowrider that has a 5.7l/Alpha One outdrive. It has a 21 pitch prop on it. I have asked a couple people about what prop/pitch/blades to run on it for what we use it for.... wakeboarding and tubing. I have heard about the expensive Merc High Five, The Alpha Four, and am told to just drop to a 19 or 17 pitch 3 blade. The alpha four says great prop for getting on plane quicker and holding plane at lower speeds. It comes in 18 and 20 pitch. Taking all advice to build concensus. thanks!

Alpha 4 in 18 pitch. It should do the trick for you.

the guys at a local boat dealer were concerned about hitting the rev limit going from a 21 to an 18. your thoughts?

thanks for the response.

Get the high five! I know its expensive but i have it on my boat and it gets wakeboarders and skiers up fast! Its great for tubing when your powering out of corners too. IMO its the best prop out their for this application

When posting a question about propellers, you cannot get a reasonable answer unless you provide the following information in your post: Items 1-4 are essential for meaningful response to most questions.
1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight

A little side note. If you prop for low speeds and hole shot you will lose wake thats a given. So do you want a prop for holding low speed's and wake boarding or a all around everything type of prop.

Re: 1999 SeaRay 210 re-prop for wakeboarding/tubing

update:
1) better holeshot, performance for wakeboarding/tubing
2) Merc Vengeance 4816318A4521P, SS, 3 blade
3) not sure of diameter, 21p 3 blade
4) 4200-4600 (45.5 mph at 4200, 47 mph at 4400)
5) Merc 5.7l, Alpha 1, 250 HP
6) 1997 SeaRay 210 Bowrider, weight???

i have read that the Alpha 4 18p prop is the replacement for the 19" 3 blade.

Is that with people or empty....You can get a prop that will snap you out of the hole but you will probably lose that two foot wake as a result...SS or alum..?

The Baypro 11 has a lot of quality's strong midrange is its fortay it will perform like a agressive 19p 3blade...Not going to go into a long mfg debate those two are amoung the best

Re: 1999 SeaRay 210 re-prop for wakeboarding/tubing

it was just my wife and I. Why will I lose the wake if I reprop it for better pull out of the hole? I thought the wake was generated by the hull, weight, trim. My goal is to have the wake or lack of wake that it currently has but a little more pop out of the hole. I don't need to run it at 45 mph. 18-22 for WB, 25 ish for pulling the kids on the tube. this is bordering on rocket science. :)

a prop that gets the boat on plane faster will transition you thru the large wake to a near no wake situation.

you will want a prop that keeps the aft planted for a wake. have you also thought about running ballast?

your boat has a dry weight of 3500#, wet weight with gear of about 4200#

I found with both my 190 SeaRay and other boats that I needed two props - one for water sports, one for everything else. I also found that I had to try a few props to find one I liked. I would suspect for your water sports needs, you will be down to the 19p 3-blade or 18p 4-blade and yes, with a reduced pitch prop, you will hit the rev limit if you do a WOT run.

martinsgate: the convo effectively started at post #6. I'd completely disregard all info from anyone prior to that, including friends, dealers, mechanics, and anyone who posted here and anyone who guessed right... etc.

Now it shouldn't be so confusing.

Tail_Gunner answered based on the math, and it makes sense. The wake might be a little smoother if she planes/flattens out faster, but the return is the pop out of the hole and lower planing speed as needed, plus better bite in turns and low-speed handling.
