My local mechanic refuses to work on Volvos so I'm forced to do things myself. I need to remove my outdrive to grease my u-joints and gimbal bearing. I have bought a jack from stumpys to remove it. My question is what should I replace while Im in there? Bellows? What should I look for? I read somewhere that I should replace a seal every time I remove the outdrive.
Which one? Any advice would be appreciated.

I also have the repair manual but some common sense things a good mechanic would know aren't listed. Like while you are in there check this....etc.

welcome aboard

plenty of how-too's in the stickies

Bellows are recommended every 2-3 years. and yes, on the SM drives, replace the seals

you have the factory manual, correct?

Yes sir I have the manual.
Which seals?
I'm pretty handy but right now I'm getting a lot of learning as I go.

you shouldnt have to touch any of the seals your showing unless you have to replace input shaft seal due to rusty u-joints from a failed bellows

the one between your gimble housing and the drive while at it with bellows, also change the hose and the inlet fitting (item 13)

item 81

you can get 18, 20 and 25 as a kit, check iBoats sell side.

item 25 tends to corrode.

item 28 is the gasket/seal that you need to replace every time you pull the drive (every year for inspection)

Don't forget two of the o rings #9 in post 4. I've seen more than a few u-joints and gimbal bearings replaced when it was those o-rings that had gone bad.

Thanks for the advice. I'll tackle this job on Saturday if all my parts show up.
Anything else I should look for?
I'm planning on replacing u joint and exhaust bellows and the water intake hose and nipple while its off.
