1999 Johnson 90 hp. model numberJ90PLEEB ; serial number 044671325. Compression is 140 on all 4 cyl..... rerplaced fuel filter and squeeze bulb..... disconected fuel line from on-board fuel tank and am using fuel from shop tank. Have installed new plugs. my spark tester shows good blue fire jumping 1/2 inch or better. Question.......????? This engine has an OIS system also a VRO ... is there somethig in the control system that would prevent the fuel from reaching the carbs? I checked and cleaned the fuel filter( the white filter indside the white plastic holder at the end of the fuel line just before thr throtle body). Don't know just what to do next..... Look forward to any response.... Thanks, Paul E-mail; ddunn@1access.net

Your carb float bowls have drain plugs on the front of them Paul. Open them up and see if you have fuel in the bowls.

If you have fuel, turn the red maual prime lever on the primer solenoid counter clockwise to about the 1 o'clock position or until it stops and see if the engine will start. If it starts, problem may lie with the primer solenoid. When pushing in on the key, you should here an audible click from the solenoid. When cranking with the key depressed, fuel should spurt out the outlet nipples on the primer head.

Now if you don't have fuel in the float bowls, check the vapor separator bowl float and needle. The float or needle could be stuck preventing fuel from getting into the bowl.
