hi all.
I have a 1964 Merc 1000 6linline.
I serviced it a bit with new plugs and changed some corroding wires then tested with the hose and started / idled perfectly.
I put on the boat and dropped it in the water today to test properly. It went ok except a couple of issues.
1st, i pulled the lu off to check the impeller the other day which is in good condition, i had a few issues getting the the shift shaft mated but did it ok. i connected all the controllers to the motor and when in neutral its ok and forwards clicks in ok but reverse seems to not click in till its almost full throttle then its all hell break lose. im guessing this may be something to do with the shift / control box adjustments, if so is there an tutorial how to setup properly?
2nd.
When i was going forwards and cursing it was ok, once i put about 2/3 of throttle it revved and it seemed i was revving like mad and the prop wasn't spinning as fast as it should. Sounded a little when my mate changed his prop and it was basically different to his last prop and the motor rpm was higher than the prop could output so it just revved out, this however after looking at the mercury part numer on the prop says it was from this model.
3rd.
For some reason at the back where the shift tilt lock bar comes out of the lu the exhaust comes out of that? what would cause this or it it right for this year or motor.
thanks for any help.
