Hello again! 4.3 Mercruiser LX Thunderbolt in a 1996 Glastron GS 185 Late last season, and now on 1st run this season, we put in and the initial run to our first destination is fine, motor purrs... sit for anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours....starts back up fine but about 5 minutes running at moderate speed (15-300 RPM) it starts to spit and backfire then loses power to the point where it chugs and eventually dies... you can definitely smell gas at this point...it will start back up but as I've read in other forums, we have to limp to shore...starting/dying/limping/PRAYING! Tried some carb cleaner last year...not much help...new gas, separator, filter on carb is good...Sea Foam in gas... is this my float sticking? or is it that the plugs are old and the thing can't burn all the fuel...4th year w/ the boat and haven't replaced... I have that on my agenda... but I wouldn't think this would just start, the plugs have been the same...I've taken pix of the carb but can see no numbers, etc. 2bbl... Any thoughts are extremely appreciated!

Check your carb bowl vent hoses. My symptoms were similar and it cost me $700 and 12 weeks in the shop to figure it ou.
