1st Timer

The word grandpa just took on a whole different meaning for me. Many times I have heard you folks talking about grandkids but never really hit me until now. Being a first timer,suggestions and advice I'm sure will come.<br /><br />Went to Wal-Mart and got a fishn pole and box to start the ball rollin. Hope I can pass the test since my son is my only.<br /><br />I'm just tickled pink to say the least........

Congrats, Gonfishn. You've got a good start with the fishing gear. If you're like most of us, you'll probably take a lot more time with your grandkids than you had time to do with your own. I know I'll stop whatever I'm doing to go for a "walky" with my 2 year old grandson. It's amazing how they see things that we never notice.

Speaking of granfathers... my grampa (god bless him) was the man who got me/us involved in boating among other things. When I was a kid he had an old (50's) Chris Craft that my uncle borrowed... it exploded at the gas dock and burned to the water in our downtown harbor. It was on the front page of the paper. My uncle was ok but was burned a little (totally healed). Luckily it was insured, upon collecting the money he purchased the family boat, a 42' Chris Craft Connie. It was beautiful. He took everyone fishing and on weekend tours constantly... I hit my first fish on the head with him, played my first game of pool with him, my first dinghy ride with him... camping... the list goes on. He was a special man. To all you caring grampas out there... cheers! I hope to be someone/something that positive too one day.

I still remember the little salmon I caught with<br />my grandfather when I was 4 or 5. He is largely<br />responsible for my affliction.<br />Congrats Grandpa.

Congrats and inspite of what his mother tells you it is not to early to start plannin that first fishing trip.perhaps a tackle box for the baby shower tell her she can use it as a diaper caddy for a little while.

gonefishing been there and done that. set my little 7 year old grandaughter up with all the fishing nessities. she lives on a river but stocked the old pond with some cats.bluegill.bass a couple of years ago took her out there last sat. and she hung a little blue gill the look on her face was worth the 400.00 it cost me to stock got loads of stories but your fun is just about to beginthey are precious and i will always make time for them

Congratulations gonfihsin.....even if it's still "pre". I got six and got one on the way "finally" by my oldest son. Ain't nothin' like it in this whole wide world. I agree with the other guys, a pole and tackle box is the perfect "new to tha' world gift". And what's neat about it is that it won't make a darn if she's a girl or he's a boy. (did I say that right?) Fishin' stuff fits both genders. Congrats again!!

Welcome to the "club" Gonfishn.<br /><br />Have 8 of my own, plus one Great Grandson. Some took to fishing, some didn't.<br /><br />Really enjoy them all. Fish with the fishermen, cook with the cooks, play soccer with the jocks.

Congrats Gonfishn! I'll never forget walking into the hospital with my husband to see our first grandson. He was carrying an offshore rod! Now he is 5 years old and caught his first fish with Papa last year.<br /><br />Just remember, "Grandkids are our reward for raising teenagers".
