Watch water pressure, temp readings are measured off of head metal, switchboxes are a likely cause of loss of spark, the oil injection system is prone to fail in regards to the plastic worm gear in the crank, make sure the alarm system is working for that reason, the pressure relief valve (poppet) is a likely cause of overheat at low rpms (stuck or full of debri).

Sort of adding to KCLOST's remarks.

- I would chuck to the oil injection from the start. No oil at WOT is deadly, even if the alarm goes off!
- Change out the entire cooling system every other year. And clean the carbs and rebuild the fuel pump every 3 years. Do this and they will last a long time.

Re: 2.0L v6

thanks laddies, but i AM a competent mechanic. its how i make my living.

just asking if there was anything specific to these years and or hp that should be adressed, such as the plastic worm gear.

i had a 90hp inline 3 cylinder that was very similar to this, but never personally owned the merc v6.

thanks guys!
