Hello all,

I recently picked up a 1989 bayliner capri with a ford 2.3 4cylinder. Took out for a test drive all checked wonderful good power no problems, and so it became mine, since the purchase My fiance and I have taken it out twice, on the second trip out pulling her on skis noticed my power was not there. We cut our trip short took it home and there we found..... water in the oil. Completed a compression test all looks good checked all hoses no leaks that we can see. I drained the oil and changed the filter changed fuel filter, changed spark plugs. Took it out next day, Perfect ran out great. took it out 2 more times problem 2-3 hours each trip. me being freaked out checking the oil every chance I got. NO PROBLEMS, now comes to today.... we take out the boat started out skiing noticed a lacking in power. checked the oil, BAM there it was again. water in the oil.... what am i missing???? Help me.... I cant help but think the worse but I am new to boating. any info is helpful.

thanks in advance
Chris

Re: 2.3 ford help

Moving to OMC forum, OMC was the only one to use the 2.3L Ford motor, and it has a Cobra outdrive.

Re: 2.3 ford help

I had the same problem local marina tech said sounds like a head gasket i did the job my self problem not solved. I took the head off again thinking that that the head needed resurfacing the machine shop noticed a crack in the head. Bought a used head ran it the rest of the summer with out a problem. Once the 2.3 is running right it is a dependable and economical motor .

Re: 2.3 ford help

i have read into a few things and have seen exhaust manifolds are known to corrode. Anyone have any info on that issue. I will pull off the exhaust manifold and check but don't know what to look for. Thanks again
