2.3l & 3.0 motors, outdrives bolt up

i have a 1986 3.0 omc with a trashed lower & upper unit. i found another unit off a 2.3 ford omc for a good deal. Is this something that will swap right in? Been reading a bunch just to 100% answer... THanks

'86 Cobra or Stringer? If Stringer, I think the lowers will swap fine but the uppers are different gear ratios - assuming both are '86.

Mine is a model 983841. Motor is 302amkwb.

I think that's a Cobra ... which I don't know nuthin' about :noidea: I'm sure someone else will though.

If they're Cobras they should bolt up; I don't have my shop manual with me to see how close the gear ratios are. If they're close it should work.

From google i found shows pre 89 gmc 3.0 was 21:18 and the 2.3 was 21:21 . the lower units have the same 13:26 ratio. How bad is the difference in the upper ratio going to hurt me is my only concern now... http://www.sterndrive.info/chart.html
