2.3L Engine Problems

HI, i have a 1987 bayliner with 2.3l ford omc and the engines starts and idles but when i go to throttle it sometimes dies and sometimes works fine. It has new point rotor cap condesner,feul filter, plugs, can anyone help?<br />Thanks<br />Any tips can also be sent to chuckw146@comcast.net if you like.

Could be the acelerator pump in the carburetor or the distributor system is not advancing.

We used to race 2.3L's at our local dirt track. I have to agree with Moose, sounds like the acc. pump, or distributor. I have also seen a loose carb. cause strange things like that.

The ESA temporarily stalls the motor so that the gears can be shifted easily. It is hard to get the gears to disengage if the motor is driving the prop. When you shift, the lever with a roller on it which is attached to the lower shift cable should slightly move up the W shaped lever and then center itself in the middle. If it isn't doing that, it will cause the engine to cut out. If it isn't centering itself you'll need to adjust the shift cable as shown here.<br /> http://www.funkopolis.com:8080/~stuart/cobra/
