I pulled an oil sample out of my dipstick tube the other day and had it tested, (I work for a cat dealer so it was 8$ and really easy) I noticed on top of the dipstick tube it had an threaded adapter fixed right to the end. I am not trying to sound stupid but is this threaded piece where I would attach a line to suck the oil out?

Yes. I always pull the plug on the pan though. The suction method rarely gets it all out.

If the dipstick has the threaded top, the dipstick goes to a fitting at drain of the pan. Why do you think actually removing the fitting where the dipstick tube go would be any better at all?

If you are planing on adapting an oil extraction pump your self. You may be interested in knowing that it's a standard garden garden hose fitting.

Yes - garden hose fitting - I always figured OMC dealers had some outfit to screw on there and quickly vacuum the oil out to do an oil change like "Quicky Lube".

Thanks guys for all the info, it really helps out. I printed off a manual for the OMC Cobra models and it has a lot of info that is helpful. Now I just have to figure out filter and oil weights and measures. I have all winter to build and inspect this unit........ taking my time on this one cause hopefully in the spring when I make her splash I wont have to pull out till next fall.

The oil sample in the dipstick tube is oil that doesn't get circulated.
It fills up when adding oil and stays right there till you suck it out again.
Draining the oil from the garden hose connector get's 99.9% of the oil out.
It's connected to the bottom of the pan.
