Ok, I know the importance of using shielded Marine components rather than automotive parts but, for the life of me, I can't see any difference other than a hose clamp holding the cover in the "Marine" starter and the automotive type. I checked the starter that was on my old engine and it was automotive. Same for the one that was on a part engine I have. From the exploded view I just don't see where there's any extra shielding or such. Any opinions?

You can search around and hopefully find one cheaper. Think of it like this then decide. If you bought and auto one and nothing happened ever, then great. But if the boat blew up and hurt or killed someone, would it be worth it

Well, found a correct Marine starter for it for only $77. Foolish for anyone not to spend the extra $30. Sorry to see that both engines from different boats had auto starters on them.
