I can't find 2-4-c with Teflon. I can find multi-purpose marine grease can I use it instead?
The directions call for 2-4-c with Teflon on the "cover assembly" over the impeller.

Also I would like to thank Gary for the help with removing my 9.9 lower unit.

I lube the impeller with vasoline when installing. It goes away after awhile anyway,it's just there to ease assembly.

I use soapy water. They specified that lube as it and red locktite are the two things used to build a Merc...other than lower unit oil and engine oil/fuel. All you want is for the rubber to slide into the housing and not bind.

Re: 2-4-c with teflon

can be used as a lubricant (mainly for seals) not for use on ball bearings ex. gimbal bearings
Special lubricant (green stuff) used for threads
The Blue stuff think it is called Gimbal bearing grease but prefer omc triple guard grease for drive shaft splines

any grease better than no grease though!

The quest for the ideal impellar lube led me to "Super Lube"

Silicone based grease with teflon. Won't dry up and is rubber and plastic safe. Incredibly slippery!

(eatable too)

I use whatever grease is handy. Silicone lube the last time. You're just coating the inside of the cup to ease installation and protect the impeller splines from that first 'dry start'. Whatever you put on them is gonna wash away quickly anyway.

Greases and oils made from petroleum can damage the impeller. Vasiline is petroleum based, a water based personal lube would be better, dish soap used sparingly is good.

I used to use dish soap as well, until I had a motor sit around for a few weeks after assembly. The soap dried up and was hard to break free. Silicone based grease is the way to go. Doesn't dry out, hurt rubber and will protect against dry "first starts" for someone who is demoing it to sell. (long story) JMHO
