First: I switched from premium (91 w/o ethanol) to regular gas (87) before this happened. This is an 83 Mercruiser 120.

The last two times I had my boat out it started up and idled great. But after running nearly WOT and then coming to a stop and shutting down, to deploy tubes, it would not restart. I would try starting with throttle only in various positions to no avail. After sitting for 15 minutes she'd turn right over with a little manual choke manipulation. After that all is well, no sputtering, stalling, idling was good in and out of gear, and WOT produced max RPM's if so demanded. The first time this happened the boat started up and ran up to nearly WOT and then slowly stalled out.

Could this just be simply because I decided to go cheap on gas suddenly or should I investigate fuel pickup issues? I forgot my 5/8 spark socket so I wasn't able to check to see if it was wet or not when it did this. My fuel pump appears to be mechanical, filter was new beginning of season.

Symptom of water in fuel maybe?

Earlier in the season I ran 87 it ran great, I stopped running 87 in June for 91 w/o ethanol; it didn't run any better but I stuck with it thinking its much better for the old engine. The only difference back then was the temp and humidity was insanely lower. Plugs, cap, rotor, and wires all new beginning of season. Point looked good so I didn't mess with it.

Your WAG is welcome.
