Guys, I am a little confused here.
We went fishing yesterday. I have one 6 hp 1970's Evinrude on the back of the boat plus I always take second one as spare. Second one is 1979 same model motor. We fished a bit which required a lot of start/stop on the motor. So one time when I decided to start it it would not start. I pulled choke (usually it is required for the first second or so top start) and it revved up. I pushed in choke and it died.
I did it few more times and it kept doing same - would run on choke but then it would die as soon as i pushed the choke in.
So I pulled that motor and installed second one. Second one did not have any troubles starting usually. Not this time! It started only with choke pulled and as soon as I pushed choke and reduced throttle it died! The only way it kept running was when the choke was off but throttle was near WOT.
My first thought was the common denominator - gas supply, but I used same gas for 2 trips before and had no issues. I can also blame dirty carbs (I have not cleaned them since got these motors year ago), but similar issue on BOTH of them????
I am really frustrated with whole thing, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Oleg
