I recently got 2 yamaha 225 parts motors. Both had their lower units removed and the previous owner didn't know which is which. How can I tell them apart?

I was thinking that since the engines rotate clock wise, I should just be able to spin the drive shaft and rotate the shift shaft into gear and watch which direction the prop shaft rotates. Does this sound right? Which way do I rotate the shift shaft to engage forward?

If you look at the back of a Yamaha drive, looking down, very close to the rubber covering the access hole for the zinc bolt, there should be an 'L' for the left rotation drive stamped into the metal and painted over....but very visible
