Greetings... Andthanks for taking a look at this. On my recently purchased 1996 Stratos 268 there are 2 sets (4 wires total, 2blk & 2red) of 6 guage wire running from the back "Gas Tank/Battery" area up to the front. Only one set is being used for my 24v, 70lb trolling motor. The other set is not hooked up. Is there a trolling motor configuration where both sets of wires would be used? Is the other set maybe for a power anchor or something? Thanks in advance for your time.

Yes there are many trolling motor configurations. Some boat manufacturers ran two separate circuits to provide for both 12 and 24 volt operation with selection made by a switch panel at the front of the boat, via a switch on the trolling motor foot pedal, or via the male trolling motor plug. If your trolling motor is 12 volt only or 24 volt only, you only need two wires. There is also a three wire setup but I won't go there as it only confuses things.

With a 24 volt only motor, you wire the batteries in series which eliminates the need for the other two wires.
