Just bought a new merc 4 stroke 115 and have had lots of trouble with the shifting. Problem has been diagnosed by merc and the dealer to be in the lower unit. Looks like they have no good fix so they are playing around with a bunch of options. They even put a stainless steel prop on to change the weight dynamics of the prop shaft to the lower unit gearcase. I would stay away from merc four stroke until they resolve this problem with somekind of redesign and upgrade kit for current users.

Can't beat a 70 HP Evinrude!! Great motors and very reliable. Easy to get service and Parts, too! Maybe I'm biased, but I have a 1991 70 Rude and have had nothing but good luck with it. The 88 HP Evinrude is also known to be one of the best Motors going!

Hi Fishmaster,<br /><br /> Take a look at NADA.com.I beleive your just a bit high on that Force motor.I just purchased a nice Johnson 225 Ocean Runner for $3300.Just thought I would let you know...<br /> <br />I also agree with Rick,Johnson/Evinrude 70hp's are great motors.

I bought new 65 Johnson commercial (same block as the domestic 70 but sans vro)in 91 and like it a lot. I would buy another but not sure about the late models since omc crashed. <br /><br />A big part of buying one to me is having a local dealer.<br /><br />Also, Travis Boating Center in the North Florida Boat Trader has a new 1999 Force 90hp elpt with full warranty for $2995.

thats one $$$$$ high priced force! what did you do? have all the parts made out of titanium,!!! I would gove $1000 for it max!
