2-Stroke and low RPM running

I know that 2-stroke outboards are really designed to run at higher RPM. I live on a canal and I have a 20 minute or so run to the Intracoastal and back at "slow speed". Are there any concerns? - especially on the return. My DT150 smokes a whole lot more than any of my neighbors who all run various Yamahas. I also seem to drop oil during flushing which I assume is the unburnt oil. Will this just screw the plugs faster? Is carbon build-up on the head a concern?

TIA

Make sure your thermostats are not stuck open.
