2 stroke or 4?

I'm new to power boating and new to this Forum. I'm sure this is asked often but I didn't find it in the Forum.
I'm looking to purchase a new Nautic Star 2110; I've found several close to my location and the price is OK. The problem I have is in deciding on a 2 stroke motor or a 4 stroke. My concern is not for which makes more power or which would offer a quicker hole shot or other performance issues, but rather are the 2 strokes being regulated out of existence. I am concerned that if I purchase a 150 hp 2 stroke motor on my new boat that in a few years I may have to purchase another motor of a 4 stroke variety because my 2 stroke has been banned in certain areas that I might use the boat.
I can find this boat fitted with a 2 stroke motor locally at a good price but it would be significantly more $ to outfit the boat with the same power 4 stroke.

Are my concerns unfounded? Opinions please.

It depends on where you are. Most of the lakes here in the midwest still accept two strokes. I'm not sure about this, but if you are thinking of a new motor, today's modern two stroke meets current EPA standards and probably are "cleaner" than an older four stroke. Now if your area lakes seem to be phasing two strokes out in general, just go with the four stroke.

What jdsgrog said.

States (or the Fed) that understand emissions and efficiency issues, rather than knee-jerk anti-2-stroke hysteria, will set emissions standards, rather than technology standards.

So far, there seems to be a mix: Some places accept ETECs (for example) as cleaner than carbed 4 strokes, others are prejudiced against any 2 stroke.

Here in Texas conservative folks are usually realistic about such things so I would have no reservations about going with a DFI 2 stroke.

I am guessing that you are here in TX.

DFI (direct fuel injection) 2-strokes will not be regulated out of existance anytime soon because they are as clean or cleaner than many four strokes and every bit as economical. Weight and performance are perfectly good reasons to select one over the other. Only carbureted two strokes are being banned at this point and even then, it is only certain areas of the country that have implemented this injustice.

Re: 2 stroke or 4?

i am not a tree hugging loon by any stretch but that thought occured to me when i went with the 4 stroke on my new boat. here in WI i have heard rumours of such things

EDIT:

the other consideration i had was the fact i detest 2 stroke engines on a more personal level with the constant mixing of oil and gas. i can never get em to run right but that is more a personal issue with me and 2 stroke motors.

so overall i was happy to get a 4 stroke as i didnt have to fiddle with fuel/oil mixes. since i have trouble making a weed eater run i dont want to fight the boat motor when all i want to do is fish.
