2 stroke?

hay guys great site

i just bought my first boat (74 caravelle terpon II) and was getting it ready for the lake but one thing i think i know is.

is my motor a 2 stroke? johnson 70hp model# 70ESL-74m

I believe it is but when i was checking things it smelt like straight gas coming out the line.

Which line, fuel line, internal fuel lines, probably you primmed it too much and leaking through carb, carbs ?

Drop lower end and change water pump impellar. AND lower end fluid.

Welcome to iboats !

Take a sample of the fuel and put it in a clear glass/plastic container........ pre-mixed (50:1 gas to oil is what you should be running [1 pint of TCW3 graded oil to 6 gallons of regular gas] all the time)

If the fuel looks blue/green tinted it has oil in it....... just for safety compare it to regular gas so you will see the difference.

As mentioned about......New to you motor? Change out the impeller and lower end gear oil.

so change just the impeller or the water pump kit? and i will check the gas visually.
