Really glad to be part of this site!

I have a Jonson 70 OB on a Rinker V153. It has 2 above deck tanks right now that need replacing. I think I found a 12 gallon tank that fits under my ledge where the 2 tanks are now.

Do you think I should stay with 2 tanks? I think it would be handier to only have 1 tank, but maybe sliding that big tank out to fill and slide back would be a pain. Also, I heard these engines are pretty thirsty. Do you think a full day of Skiing would take up more than 12 gals?

Open to any suggestions / comments.

Thanks

Jeff

Actually, Jeff, that 70 is pretty fuel efficient as 70HP outboards go.

Unless it causes you space problems I suggest that you stick with a pair of 6 gallon tanks. They are much easier to take away to fill at a gas station for a lot less than at the marina.

You also gain the advantage of being able to empty one tank and know exactly how much you have left.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB. Cost wise, it is about a wash, so no big deal staying with 2 tanks.

Nice avitar too!

Jeff

"full day of skiing" ?

12 gallons will probably last about 3 hours if run hard, 4 hours if you are taking it easy.

Keep the old tanks around as spares.

I have a 70hp 'rude, 12 gallons should get you through the day. I use a pair of 6gal because I don't want to lift 75lbs of gas tank into the boat. You do put the tanks on the ground (or the dock) while you're pumping gas, don't you? :)
