20 & 25hp chrysler outboard lower units

hey folks, newbie to the forum but not to chrysler outboards, had a 8 hp chry bought new in 1976 had it stolen last year :mad: but anyhow

I'm looking to buy a 25hp chrysler outboard but the lower unit is missing, I have access to a lower unit from a 20 hp chrysler my question is are the lower units the same would it be a direct bolt on? not sure if the driveshaft would be the same length or not...

anyone have any ideas thanks in advance....

both motors are from the early to mid 70's

Chrysler made two versions of the 25. one used a ten inch prop like the 35, 45, and 55. The other used a nine inch prop. The two lower units are not swappable.

On the larger unit, the bolt holes on one side are 5 inches apart. On the smaller unit they are 4 inches apart.

SO: before buying either, ask about the spacing for the lower unit mounting holes.

In those years, the usual way of producing smaller engines was short shaft, 15 inch transom. There was a kit with a spacer, water tube extension, and a longer drive shaft to convert to long shaft, 20 inch transom.
