Recently purchased my first 'toon. 2012 Suntracker Fishin Barge 20 with a 60 HP Mercury Bigfoot.

I just passed ~20 hours of use this past weekend and called to schedule with Tracker Marine to perform the 20 hour maintenance they recommended. Needless to say they are backlogged 3+ weeks. So I called some local Mercury Service pro's via Mercury's website, they all claimed that there is no such thing as a 20 hour maintenance for this motor, just the 75 - 100 hour maintenance per Mercury.

Any opinions regarding whether a 20 hour service is necessary. If so, what should be looked out, drained / refilled, etc. I believe I should be able to do it if is just oil, filter, etc. (Tracker want $250).

Thanks,

William

Have you looked at your Merc owners manual? All that info is in it.

I have a 2012 Mercury 115 Four Stroke and I think it mentions in the manuel about the 20 hour service. I purchased mine from Cabelas and they were quite adament about the 20 hour serive. It does make sense as one needs to get rid of all the possible breakin shavings etc and start fresh. Did you try your local Cabelas for service?

It does seem a really low hour check.Did you mention to Merc it is on a toon.
Toon motors do work really hard .While 20 hours is 20 hours regardless of the application
the motor is very likely running at higher rpm over those hours.
I'd still be inclined to stick to Mercs suggested interval anyway.
