My 1986 20 hp Evinrude overheated last summer. I replaced the water pump and related parts then and it never has ran right since. Over the winter I have replaced the rectifier, power pack, thermostat and gasket (not head gasket) as all of these were original, according to the part # cross reference. While doing this, I also noticed the bolt with the rubber stopper, the spark adjust screw, was completely lose and almost backed right out. Also the adjustable collar on the throttle connecting rod was lose and just sliding up and down the rod. I guess what I am asking is, is there any way to adjust/set the timing to get the motor back in running condition before I get 4 hours from home and up to the lake?

Yes, I did a compression test. 120 on the top cylinder and about 118 on the bottom.
