My 20 hp merc about 22 years old seems to only fire on one cylinder early on each time I take it out. Gas mixture perfect, good plugs, etc. After about 10 minutes cylinder will kick in, usually no problem rest of the day. Plug is never dirty or fouled when I pull to check. Could it be a timing problem, powere pack. Please help.

Re: 20 hp. merc

I would pull one of the plug wires (with motor off!), ground it to the block, and see if the problem is the same, or if it won't start at all. That will tell you if it's ignition. If it is, then I would try swapping the coils top and bottom to see if it's a coil problem. If the same cylinder is lights out, then it may be the powerpack...
- Scott
