Can I mount a 20 inch shaft on a 25 inch transom? How far does the engine have to set back? Who makes a product for this application so I do not have to buy a longer driveshaft and midsection? Thanks

Howdy, Bonitoman.

A 20" 4hp is one thing, a 150hp is something else.

In very general terms, small engines can be put on kicker mounts, big engines require a setback with enough room to fit controls, etc. behind the transom.

Some would chop the transom. I don't like that idea at all.

You are probably going to have to spend some bux. Either swapping the leg or swapping the whole engine seem like good solutions for big engines.

When we know the answer to Rick's question we can give better advice.

Good luck :)

It should work, although nothing is better than the correct length shaft, providing that your steering linkage and control cables will reach another 8" Back and you have enough clearence for the Motor between the stern. Most times you cannot get another 8" out of the steering Cable, so that would have to be replaced. There can also be unforseen problems with the Motor upper end being too close to the Water, in order to achive proper Prop Depth in relation to the hull.

It's really a function of your props efficeincy and hull design. Yes, it will work. But not with a 100.00 prop. A large fin like the King Fin will help too. You are correct....the set back will help. 8" should translate to about 1 1/2" in X dimension.

Which Wellcraft do you have?

I do not have the boat yet. I rebuilt my 110 johnson two years ago and put 300 hours on it and do not want to get rid of it.The boat hull that I am looking at are 25 inch transoms.I have a manual jack plate from bobs machine and if I get the boat was going to hang it on the back to use the 110.
