I know you can't put a 20" shaft on a 25" transom.I was wondering if anyone has made a bracket or something to make it work.I just can't find a decent price (cheap) outboard around here (Ohio) with a 25" shaft.I have found alot of good deals on 20" shaft motors.Where would be a good place that deals in used outboard parts to find a 25" shaft to convert a 20" outboard?
Thanks,Jeff

Converting to longshaft isn't impossible, but depends on the motor brand. I've done two old OMC's for less than $150. What brand is it?

Okay, but if we don't know the brand you are working with/looking at we can't give you a ballpark cost estimate on converting to extra long shaft. What brand are working with? The other option is to cut down the transom to make a 20-inch shaft work or install and offset jack plate.

i suggest a motor bracket. unless you can get the jack plate to adjust high enough, you will have trouble tilting the motor.

By the time you get done fooling around with a jackplate or gill bracket, you may as well just have the motor converted. If you can't get it converted, look for another motor.

New 25'' leg outboar....$4000.00 to $5000.00 on up

Hydraulic Jack plate with 10'' setback...$600.00 to $1500.00

Would still be able to tilt the outboard with the 10'' setback

A new 150hp outboard for 4000 - 5000 dollars? Where? I want one!

On the other hand, don't buy the 20" shaft motor, save the money and go find one with a 25" shaft with the original money. He might even get a better motor with the added money that would have gone to the jackplate.

Seems like a big investment for what you get to me. I would keep looking for the correct outboard !!!
