2001 200 EFI... Has been experiencing everything from smoking at idle to mid throttle to max throttle missing and engine shut down.. Myself with a Merc Tech have done everything from cleaning/checking the high pressure and low pressure fuel pump, ck reeds, throttle plate, replaced voltage regs, stator tests, ignition tests, and finally found an ECU with problems. ECU was replaced, ran great.. 6 mo later the demons are back. Replaced TPI (due to bad response) and even plugged in a new ECU, same problem. We've narrowed (we hope) the problem down to the control module on the top of the engine. Has anyone ever experienced this problem or similar? Or had to replace the control module (where did you purchase one other than Merc)? or do you have any suggestions as to the root of the problem?
thanks for your help!!

Re: 200 EFI Control Module

The very first thing that comes to mind is not just a poor ground but an intermittant poor ground/contact.

Start at the battery and clean and tighten ALL CONNECTIONS

Carefully expand the male pins in the main engine cannon plug

Take apart then reassemble ALL ground cables on the intake side of the engine, there are a number of ground connections there, any one of then could contribute to your intermittant problem.

Lastly, take a very careful look inside the multipin connectors for the EFI system, use a spray electrical parts cleaner to throughly clean all contacts then lightly grease the sealing lips so to keep out moisture.
